He leans forward to display his network of muscle sheets. He clenches his fist and delivers one strong smile amazing everyone in the building. Many know him as the ‘Blade’ but, his real name is Dexter Jackson.
For the few who don’t know him, he is an American IFBB professional bodybuilder who has been nothing, but a great competitor since he came into limelight.
Even if you know him very well, it is doubtable if you will find the suitable words to describe him. However, here is an overview of his early life.
The ‘Blade’ as you may know him, was born on 25th November in 1969. He came from a sport oriented family with his father, Willie Jackson, take charge of both football and softball teams in Florida. His father ensured all his six children took part in sports. However, he found pleasure in playing football and running track to the level that he became one of the best running backs in the whole state of FL.
Unfortunately or fortunately for him, he got a son just when he hoped to join college. As a responsible man, he opted to stay out and take care of his son. As his brother came back from military training, he was inspired to start weight training. This was further fueled by the fact that his friend was competing in the local bodybuilding competitions. He embarked on dieting and weight lifting to pack some muscle.
His first bodybuilding competition came in 1992 where he took a 3rd spot in the NPC southern states championship. However, he turned professional in 1999 where he participated in the Arnold classic, Mr. Olympia and Night of Champions bodybuilding competitions unsuccessfully. It led to some people doubting his capabilities for future competitions.
The same thing happened in 2007 where he became 3rd in the Mr. Olympia competition. Pressure was piling up, but as a man who thrives on such motivation, he brought down the two time monster, Jay Cutler in the same competition in 2008.
He piled up a series of awards that year plus other successive one in the following year. As if that was not enough, he became the second bodybuilder to ever win both Mr. Olympia and Masters Olympia competition in 2012. He shares this with Chris Dickerson. What is most about this is that he did it at the age of 43 when nobody though he would.
Over his career, he has picked up more than 10 awards with some a more than equal number of runner ups. The most recent being the one the Prague Pro in 2014 where he came second, but still one the Dubai Pro in the same year.
Dexter Jackson has enjoyed a successful bodybuilding career dotted only by his separation with his wife. Since he entered the limelight in 1999, he has continued to dominate competitions thanks to a healthy lifestyle and enthusiasm for training.
He continues to work out with his friends most of them who also happen to be bodybuilders. He currently stays in his home in Jacksonville, Florida, but likes swimming on weekends.
